Working on improving teaching objectives and teaching goals in Week Eleven

Student Teaching Day 55: Weekly Reflection

Objectives of the blog:

  • Reflect on this weeks experience

With a completion of Week Eleven I am starting to gain confidence back into my lessons everyday. One of things I've been doing that a little different each week now than prior is I have been writing out the different strategies that I am going to use in a class as well. I am not longer just writing down my bell works, ticket outs, learning objectives, like I was weeks prior. I am not including things which make my plans for each week "mini-lesson plans" just without the whole summary of learning and all of the finer details.

The real problem: Learning how to eat multiple "frogs" at the same time

I have found this to help me because I can look at my overall week and reflect on how each day has gone and from there come up with a game plan on what my next week will look like sooner rather than later. I have found this to be helpful in the scheme of planning and making sure I am prepared each week.

When looking at a way to improve one of the comments that was made to me was I need to relook at how I am writing my objectives from what will the students do to what will the students learn. I also need to look at making my Bell Work Meaningful and my Ticket Outs purposeful. So this week I changed it up and have changed the way I am making my Bell Works recap what we did yesterday and my ticket outs a check on something that is important we covered today.

Another thing I learned is I need to convince one of my students to create a machine that grades for Ag Teachers.  I learned quickly that with seven classes that an assignment or two results in a lot of work.  As in suddenly you have to grade 100 assignments in one day. I am grateful though that even though the marking period ends sooner rather than later that I was told that I need to get my grades in sooner rather than later.  It was helpful for me to get assignments completed and wrapped up nicely for students.

I hope that this coming week with SLLC and all the other fun stuff that is going one that it will be a successful week again.

To Be Continued . . .

  1. George, your "game planning" of lesson plans will help you be able to accurately reflect on what worked and what didn't, and to ID what techniques will be most effective to use again in future lessons. What were some of the things that you did to change your Bell Work and Exit Tickets to make them more purposeful? Grading is a challenge that all teachers face, so once you create that machine to get it done for them, you will be a millionaire!
